La Chapelle de l’Esprit (2023 — Hyeres, Combo Magazine Residency)

A cable conduit is ordinarily a secondary infrastructure: it protects and carries something while staying underground or behind the wall. Here I draw it out of that invisible space, make it red, monumental and central, and install it in a chapel as one would present a relic. What is sacralised is not the industrial object but the *passage itself* — that which carries an energy, links two points, and lets an invisible force circulate. Red and curved, the conduit turns organic: cable, vein, root, artery, an extension of a nervous system binding the underground, the body and the spiritual space.

The chapel matters because it is already an architecture built around something that cannot be seen — faith, spirit, presence — into which I introduce further invisible phenomena: electricity, sound, projection, thought, each perceptible only through its effects. A parallel surfaces: religion and technology both invent forms, objects and rituals in order to enter into relation with invisible forces. Drawn film becomes moving light on stone; smoke gives a body to the otherwise invisible beam; sound fills the space without ever taking stable form. What the chapel finally proposes is that the sacred may not reside in objects at all, but in the attention, the place and the gaze we grant them — a plain conduit becomes a spiritual presence, its sacredness constructed, and the experience it produces no less real for that.
